Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that repair unhealthy teeth by replacing their tooth enamel. Dental crowns are strong and reliable restorations that make it possible to fix a tooth and improve the oral health. Our dentist, Dr. Michael Mullen, is happy to tell you a little more about dental crowns by giving you the details of dental crown benefits and the treatment involved.

Dental crowns can do many things, like protect a weak tooth, repair a cracked or broken tooth, help a worn-down tooth, hold a dental bridge in place, complete a dental implant restoration, cover an unattractive tooth, support a tooth that doesn’t have the strength it needs, and more.

Your dentist will begin by numbing your tooth and surrounding gums. Then, he will trim the tooth enamel to make room for the restoration. Next, he will take impressions (which are like models) of the tooth and will send those impressions to a dental lab. There, your restoration will be custom made. When it’s ready, you will come back to our office to have it cemented into place. While you wait, you will be given a temporary crown.
