Has your child started the process of teething yet? Although a child is often born with many of their teeth, they do not begin to break the surface of the gums until around six months old. When they do start to appear above the gums, it can be painful to a child. Luckily, there are products that can be used to help minimize and dull the pain.

Even though teething is a normal part of growing up, it can be painful for a child. To help the child with any pain they may be feeling, there are plenty of tools that can be used. Specific teething tools such as teething rings are built to allow the child to safely chew on them. Other treatments you can use include cold washcloths or spoons, and gauze pads. Avoid letting the child use your finger as a teething toy unless it is clean and free of contamination.

There are teething medications that can be used, but they can be dangerous for extremely young children and should only be administered under the guidance of a trained professional. Furthermore, if your child is showing extreme signs of teething including heavy rashes, cold chills, high fevers, or diarrhea, they will need to contact their pediatrician. Minor symptoms may include loss of appetite and abnormal sleep patterns.
